The Dangerous Highland Tradition of "Blazing the River"
The Highlands of Scotland have long been associated with rugged landscapes, mysterious lochs, and an enduring connection to nature. Among the many traditions and tales that originate from these ancient lands, one of the most thrilling and perilous customs was "blazing the river." This practice involved nighttime hunting for salmon, using flaming torches to light up the shallow waters. Though it was an exhilarating adventure for those involved, blazing rivers carried a heavy mix of danger, excitement, and moral ambiguity.
