Nestled in the serene parish of Linton in Roxburgh lies a tale of bravery and folklore that has captivated the hearts of many for centuries. This is the tale of the Horseman and the Serpent of Linton, a story of heroism and local legend.

The Legend Unveiled

Around A.D. 1174, the parish of Linton was terrorized by a monstrous creature described as a "worm" or serpent. The beast's den was located in a place now known as Worm's Glen, a hollow south-east of Linton church. This creature was said to be about nine feet long, with a head proportionate to its serpentine body and colored similarly to common muir adders.
